Amanda Ochsner is an assistant professor of education at University of Findlay. Formerly a postdoctoral research associate at the USC Pullias Center for Higher Education, she continues to work with the Center’s Digital Equity in Education team.
Ochsner received her doctorate from the Digital Media program in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her work explores how playing games, participating in game communities, and designing games are good for learning. Her most recent research examines game design practices, from kids’ first exposure to programming and prototyping to the long-term learning trajectories of experienced game designers. After working in games journalism and becoming frustrated by the quality of the games marketed to girls, Ochsner is motivated to find ways to get more girls and women engaged with games, programming, and design.
