Pullias is Hiring: Postdoctoral Scholar Wanted for Highly Collaborative Research Project
The University of Southern California’s Pullias Center for Higher Education, one of the world’s leading research centers on higher education, is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to collaborate on a research partnership project for the Los Angeles Education Research Institute (LAERI).
The postdoctoral scholar will work in collaboration with the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, Loyola Marymount University School of Education, and practitioners at the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to understand disparities in students’ secondary math course-taking patterns and how taking math-courses, particularly in the senior year of high school, is associated with various college outcomes.
The selected candidate will get the opportunity to work alongside Pullias Center’s Tatiana Melguizo, associate professor at the USC Rossier School of Education and an expert on community colleges and math placement policies. Duties include analyzing, coding, merging, and overall management of complex datasets; drafting presentations, reports, and policy briefs; securing data agreements with postsecondary institutions; assisting with grant proposals; and regularly attend meetings with practitioner partners in addition to frequently communicating with LAUSD and postsecondary staff.
Due to the highly collaborative nature of this project, we are seeking a postdoctoral scholar with excellent communication and writing skills. Candidates should also have a doctoral degree in the social and behavioral sciences or education, and they should have experience and/or training in K-12 math and science education in the U.S. and/or in the postsecondary success of historically underserved students in the U.S. (e.g., first-generation, English learners, and low-income students).
We offer a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and given the current COVID-19 conditions, the selected candidate may have the option to work remotely. The postdoctoral position will begin in July 2020. It is a temporary, fixed-term, one-year position.
