Pullias Lecture Rescheduled for September 2020

The 42nd Pullias Lecture, which was originally set for Thursday, March 12, 2020, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2020. The decision to delay the event was made based on issues related to COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus.

While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at the university, USC has asked all students and instructors to hold their classes online between March 11 and March 13, 2020.  This is being done in order to familiarize on-campus students and faculty to the on-line classroom system so the university is prepared should the need arise to close the campus in the future.  The timing of this drill overlaps with the date for the Pullias Lecture.

“The temporary cancellation of on-campus classes combined with ongoing disruption in travel related to COVID-19 would significantly impact the attendance of the 42nd Pullias Lecture,” notes Pullias Center Director Adrianna Kezar.  “In consideration for all registered attendees and presenters, and to ensure the widest possible audience for the lecture’s important topic, the event will be moved to Tuesday, September 15, in the same location.”

The lecture, “Advancing Racial Equity through Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) Campus Centers,” will feature Tia Brown McNair, Vice President in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Student Success, Association of American Colleges and Universities, and Kaiwipunikauikawēkiu Lipe, Native Hawaiian Affairs Specialist, University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa.

“We did consider holding the event online,” admits Kezar. “However, considering our two primary speakers are on very opposite ends of the country with one in Hawai’i and the other in Washington D.C., we did not feel that format would be ideal for this presentation.”

Any new details will be posted on the Pullias Center website and emailed directly to all currently registered attendees.
