USC Pullias Center Director Adrianna Kezar Named Executive Editor of Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning

Adrianna Kezar, Director of the Pullias Center for Higher Education, will be the new Executive Editor of Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning, making the Pullias Center the new editorial home for the influential publication. Kezar has been on the magazine’s editorial board for the past two decades and assumed her new role on July 1, 2021.

“Dr. Kezar’s tireless work and research around critical issues within higher education make her an ideal person to take on this role,” shared Dr. Pedro Noguera, Dean of USC Rossier School of Education. “We are proud to have such a prestigious publication make its editorial home in our leading center for research on reforms related to equity in higher education, particularly college access and success for underserved students and communities.”

“I am very confident that Adrianna will provide great leadership, and the University of Southern California will provide a supportive editorial home as the magazine enters a new and exciting time,” said David C. Paris, Professor of Government, Emeritus, at Hamilton College and the publication’s current outgoing Executive Editor.

Change publishes research on contemporary issues in higher education, provides trends and new insights and analyzes implications of educational programs and policies. Published six times a year, the magazine put out its first issues in 1969. Change is currently on its 53rd volume and has a readership running the gamut from college administrators, to faculty to state and federal officials. Its most recent issue contains articles ranging from analyzing post-secondary education and enrollment in a post-COVID-19 world to a story calling on white people to commit to the cultivation of their inner-awareness during a time of racial reckoning and accountability.

“I’m honored for the opportunity to edit Change Magazine, one of the premier journals in higher education,” stated Kezar. “Having spent my career studying the change process and the role of leaders in change in higher education, I’m very excited to be able to work with a network of scholars and practitioners who care about the future of higher education.”

Kezar is a national expert on student success, equity and diversity, non-tenure track faculty, as well as change, governance, and leadership in higher education. A prolific scholar with over 20 books/monographs, over 100 journal articles, and over a hundred book chapters and reports, her most recent books include: The Gig Academy: Mapping Labor in the Neoliberal University, Higher Education Administration for Social Justice and Equity: Critical Perspectives for Leadership, The Faculty for the 21st Century: Moving to a Mission-Oriented and Learner-Centered Faculty Model, and How Colleges Change: Understanding, Leading, and Enacting Change.
